Antinutritional constituents

This group include substances naturaly incident in plants thence in feeds too. They are subsatnces, who impair toothsomeness thereby feed intake, mainly deteriorate nutrients utility above all.

It's part of bigger group of vegetable substances referred to as secondary metabolites. Charecterized are as vegetable subsances who do not have primary function and are not in every botanical species. Secondary metabolites have some of 4 basic functions:

  • work as secondary way of primary metabolism,
  • relate to abiotic surrounding e.g. frost and float adaptation,
  • regulate relations with animals [herbivorous animals, pollinators] and pathogenic microbes. To this group is included most of antinutritional constituents and is most examined,
  • regulate relations with other embryophytes - most known are allelopatic substances.
