Legumes

Legumes are protein feedstuffs. Limiting aminoacid is methionin. Energetic value of legumes is lower than in cereals, but they contain more minerals and significantly higher level of crude protein. They can be fed earliest 2 months after harvest, when fermentation processes are finished. Legumes have possitive influence on quality of meat and fat.

Some legumes are not able to be fed without its processing or in higher levels because of content of antinutritional factors (glykosides, hydrogen cyanide release possibility). They are not suitable for high gravid animals, because they are flatulent.

In our republic there is fed largely feed peas (pigs, pigeons), field pea, faba bean (pigs, beef-cattle). Vetch, lupine and others come into question too.
